Summer Is Approaching — Let’s Prepare With Intention

Summer Is Almost Here

As we get closer to summer, I want to remind you how important it is to slow down enough to prepare intentionally, especially for those caring for seniors, loved ones, children, and even themselves.

Summer can be beautiful.
But for caregivers and Assisted Living providers, it also requires extra awareness and planning.

And sometimes the smallest adjustments make the biggest difference.

Helpful Caregiving Tips for the Summer Months

1. Hydration Matters More Than You Think

Many seniors do not feel thirst the same way younger people do.

Encourage hydration consistently throughout the day, even before someone says they are thirsty.

Simple things help:

  • Water bottles nearby
  • Fruit with high water content
  • Popsicles or flavored water
  • Gentle reminders throughout the day

Dehydration happens quickly in warmer months.

2. Watch for Heat Exhaustion

Pay attention to:

  • Increased fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • Confusion
  • Weakness
  • Loss of appetite

Sometimes families assume it’s “just aging,” when the body is actually reacting to heat.

Cool environments and monitoring outdoor exposure are very important.

3. Summer Is Also for Joy

Caregiving is not only about safety and routines.

It’s also about quality of life.

Simple summer moments matter:

  • Music outside
  • Short walks
  • Ice cream outings
  • Gardening
  • Family visits
  • Sitting in the sunshine safely

Small moments create meaningful memories.

4. Caregivers Need Care Too

Please do not forget yourself this summer.

Rest.
Hydrate.
Take breaks.
Laugh more.
Spend time with people you love.

Burnout helps no one.

And I say this with love because I know firsthand how easy it is to keep pushing while ignoring your own needs.

AI in Senior Care: 5 Things You Should Be Using AI For
AI is changing almost every industry—and senior care is no exception. But when people hear "AI in caregiving," they sometimes imagine robots replacing caregivers. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about something much more practical: How can we use AI to reduce some of the administrative work, become more organized, communicate better, and give ourselves more time for the human wo...
