They’re Watching More Than We Think

The Lesson I Didn’t See Coming

There is always a lesson in every season.

These past few weeks, I’ve been learning something profound — and it came through my daughter.

I noticed something. When I am tired but push through anyway, ignoring what my body is telling me, she does the same.

When I say, “I’m fine,” even though I need rest, she mirrors that.

But when I pause and say, “I’m tired, I need to rest,” and I go take a nap… she goes and rests too.

And suddenly it hit me.

She has been tired too. Long school days. Activities. Growing body. Growing mind. And I didn’t fully see it because I was focused on pushing through.

The lesson is deeper than rest.

If I discipline myself to listen to my body, she learns to listen to hers.

If I make it safe to acknowledge fatigue, she learns it’s safe for her too.

Our children are watching in ways we don’t even realize.

Teaching Her to Use Her Voice

There have also been moments where I intentionally step back just far enough so she can speak for herself.

Even something as simple as getting her nails done.

Instead of speaking for her, I stand nearby — close enough to hear, far enough to allow her to say what she wants. Even in slightly uncomfortable or pushy environments, she is learning that her voice matters.

She is learning she can say, “No, I don’t like that.”

She is learning she can ask for what she prefers.

And now she is also learning she can rest her body when she needs to.

What a beautiful thing.

I didn’t realize this was unfolding. I should have noticed. I didn’t. But I see it now.

And now is what matters.

Sometimes our children are waiting for us to treat ourselves better — so they can begin treating themselves better too.

If you’re a parent, a leader, or even just someone others observe, remember this:

Someone is learning how to live by watching you.

Let’s become the healthiest version of ourselves — not just for us, but for the next generation.

AI in Senior Care: 5 Things You Should Be Using AI For
AI is changing almost every industry—and senior care is no exception. But when people hear "AI in caregiving," they sometimes imagine robots replacing caregivers. That's not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about something much more practical: How can we use AI to reduce some of the administrative work, become more organized, communicate better, and give ourselves more time for the human wo...
