Watching Them Grow
As many of you know, my oldest son, Jamar, is graduating high school this year.
It’s incredibly rewarding — and also incredibly hard.
Planning his graduation, having conversations about college, and watching him prepare to step into his own life has stirred up so many emotions. Of course I want him to go, explore, and find his way. I’m confident he’ll make great choices — and yes, probably a few silly mistakes too.
His values are in order, and like all parents, I pray he remembers them when peer pressure shows up.
And still… I cry.
Time moves so quickly. Watching your children grow is one of life’s most beautiful reminders of how precious every season truly is.
Listening to My Body and Choosing Rest
This season has also required something else from me — rest.
I’ve needed more sleep than usual, so I’ve been taking evening naps and resting on weekends. My daughter wakes up every morning full of plans and is never thrilled to hear that Mommy needs rest — but she understands. Sometimes she even joins me, learning early that rest is not weakness, it’s wisdom.
The cold front hasn’t helped much either.
One big realization came when I stopped drinking coffee. It wasn’t easy. Before, whenever I felt tired, I would reach for another cup — sometimes multiple cups a day. Looking back, my body wasn’t asking for caffeine. It was asking for rest.
I’m sharing this because I hope you’re giving yourself permission to rest too, as much as you’re able. Your body and your mind will thank you.
